Despite the fact that Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and the power is in the hands of the National Assembly, King Rama IX (Bhumibol Adulyadej) is held in the greatest respect. It is the longest reigning king in the world, and has earned recognition among the Thais by concern for the country and involvement in its development. December 5th, the birthday of the King, is a national holiday in Thailand, pompously celebrated throughout the country and beyond its borders, also in Poland. Before the weekend we had a pleasure to attend a party organized by the Embassy of Thailand in Warsaw. For the Thais living in exile was an opportunity to celebrate together and strengthen ties.
